You Really Should Inventory Your Personal Property

By Bluehammer Admin

A home inventory is a smart way to safeguard your valuables, saving money and time.

What is a home inventory?

A home inventory is a list you make of your personal property found in and around your house. Each item you add includes photographs, model numbers, descriptions, purchase price and other detailed information.

Using your home inventory for insurance needs

The number one reason for having a home inventory is for insurance purposes and being prepared for a covered disaster. Having a home inventory report of your personal property speeds up the claim process saving you time and money. Knowing how much personal property you have is also key when shopping for homeowners insurance, helping ensure you pay for just the right coverage.

Using your home inventory for reference

Another use for your home inventory is for reference. For instance, say you are in the home improvement store and remember you need a new refrigerator water filter but don't know the model number of your refrigerator. Being able to see the model number of your refrigerator from your home inventory on your phone saves you another trip to the store or the possibility of buying the wrong filter.

Stylish Bath Storage Solutions: Ways to Complement Your Bathroom Vanity

Finding adequate storage is a particularly challenging problem in bathrooms, and not just because they are usually the smallest rooms in the house. Home Repairs VS Improvements: No Clear Answer

Question: I am having trouble figuring out what constitutes an improvement and what is ordinary maintenance. Thinking ahead to selling my house in a few years when the market rebounds, I have been keeping accurate records so that I can deduct these costs to lower the capital gains. Recently, I remodeled a bathroom, replaced a deck, replaced and upgraded the spa filter and motor, replaced the front door with a fiberglass model guaranteed to last more than my lifetime, and replaced a roof and rain gutters. Which of these can I safely regard as improvements, and which are just maintenance?

Replacing Your Water Heater

Hot water is a luxury we all take for granted until it goes cold.

Maintaining Your Hot Water Heater

Water heaters generally have a lifespan of 8-12 years, but as with anything, the better care you take of it, the longer it will last. There are several easy "set it and forget it" tips that you can use with your water heater, like keeping the thermostat at 120 degrees, and always maintain two feet of clearance around the appliance. You can also conserve money on your gas bill by setting your heater to its "vacation" setting when leaving town. This will keep the pilot light going without heating the water.

How To Safely Remove Window Glass

Why would you need to remove glass from your window? In most cases, it's because the glass is cracked or broken, or it is an insulated pane that's no longer sealed properly. Or maybe it's time to upgrade your windows with tinted or smart glass. Professional glass shops can help you choose and size the right glass for the job, but first you'll have to remove the window glass and bring in the sash. If there is a break on a stationary window or the sash and it isn't budging, you may need to hire a professional glass installation expert.

8 Clever Ways To Zone Off Space In An Open Floor Plan

We've fallen for open-plan living in recent years. After all, not many of us have a formal room just for company anymore. And with modern building materials, we don't necessarily need every room to have four walls to keep it at a comfortable temperature. But although an open plan may bring the space, light, flow and garden views we desire, it can also feel problematic to organize into zones - and prove distracting to share. Enter the glass partition. It makes room division simple yet doesn't starve spaces of light or compromise the open feel. Decorative, at half or full height, framed or barely visible, a glass partition can work in every environment. Check out these designs.
